et me paint a picture that probably very many of you will relate to. It's March 2020 and your business is killing it. You're on this path of growth that is exciting and you can't wait to see where the year takes you. Then March 12th happens. All of your shoots are postponed for a couple of weeks, no big deal. Things are a little scary but you're sure that this is temporary and you're actually looking forward to the break from obligations. It's now been a year, Covid-19 is still here but things are getting better & you're starting to get back into the swing of things.

DON'T FALL BACK INTO YOUR OLD WAYS.

Now what do I mean by that? A lot of us had a solid yea..::clears throat:: I mean 6 months after realizing what we should have been doing this whole time to figure out our businesses and wait for it...

✨ P I V O T ✨

Ah yes, the word you've heard probably a million times in the past year.

Anyway, back to my point.

distracted dog from the movie UP from Pixar & Disney.

Things are picking back up and it's exciting!

As things get even better & progress you're going to want to say yes to every project & every person that asks you for help even if you don't 100% want to. It's good to remember that if you're not a good fit for a project, stop trying to mold yourself into something you aren't and Just. Say. No.

Here is a handy link from themuse.com for some ways you can say no politely

Now, don't get me wrong. If you need the money, you need the money.

All I am advocating for is taking a minute before agreeing to a project or working with someone that doesn't give you the best feelings. Sit with it & see how it feels before you send off that "I'm so excited we are working together." email. You know how when you work with a great team, it doesn't even feel like work?

Yea, more of that in 2021 and beyond.

I can't tell you how many times I've personally agreed to a project knowing damn well I wasn't fully interested in it. How can you put in your best work if your only in it half-heartedly? I do understand some work we do as creators isn't the most interesting or stimulating but I hope you're spending more time on projects that are interesting this year. Fulfilling those things you always hoped you would.

IF 2020 taught us anything, it's this. Human connection/chemistry is important. When you vibe with the right people, you can move mountains.

Now go move some mountains, even if that means just kicking some rocks at first.
